Got my BBA+MBA from ESADE Business School and graduated from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) with a degree in Business Administration.
Started my career in business as a program manager at BBVA bank. After leaving BBVA, worked for Hewlett Packard in the areas of Production, Logistics and Finance supporting New Product Development (NPD) and the Marketing function. For over 10 years acted as Managing Director of a family-owned agribusiness company and as a member of the board of the number one Spanish cooperative of producers of bedding plants. A few years ago joined a consulting firm on the field of creativity and innovation as strategic partner and more recently as board advisor of a fast-growing technology consultancy firm.
Certified as participant-centred learning facilitator by Harvard Business School and trained in Design Thinking (user-centred, prototype-driven process for innovation) by the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design (the d.school) at the Stanford University, I have been teaching Operations and Innovation Management and Creative Thinking at several Business Schools (at ESADE for more than 15 years- where I also occupied several management positions at Executive Education), Deusto Business School (where I am currently lecturing in innovation), Universidad ORT, FAE-Curitiba, Baltic Management Institute, Washington University-OLIN School of Business in St.Louis, and as a visiting professor in residence at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena (CA) and conducting a series of workshops, conferences and seminars aimed at helping business executives to become more proficient in their creative abilities to drive every possible type of innovation (product, service, process and business model) within their organizations. These training sessions I facilitate are aimed at awaking novel possibilities (that do not exist but in the executives’ minds although they are not even conscious of) to cope with business and management problems of all kinds and make these novel ideas real.
I have written several management articles (in the field of operations and innovation) and opinion pieces regarding topics of concern for nationwide and international magazines and newspapers and recently I self-published my first book called Companies that Thrive! Also available in the Spanish version ¡Empresas Ganadoras! (in paper and digital) at http://enricsegarra.bubok.com/
My research centres around (1) the neuroscience of creativity and how to apply learning in the way the mind operates and processes information to generate novel solutions to some of the most puzzling problems in business and society today, (2) design thinking as a process to be used to drive innovation through the whole organization and beyond putting into practice the maxim “built to think” and (3) how to lead innovation change within organizations and (4) exploring the intersection between Arts and Business through decoding the artist ‘s way at work.
